The use of rattles is common in shamanic culture around the world. Shamans use them as tools to connect with the spirit realms, to connect with spirit, to enter trance states, and as instruments for healing, purification, and protection. Shamans believe that the frequency produced by the rattles resonates with the energetic frequencies of the universe and creates a harmonious connection between the physical and spiritual realms. During a treatment, the rattle helps to vibrate the body's energy field, breaking down stagnations and supporting healing.
The process of making the rattle itself is sacred. Shamans create the rattles with a very strong intention and precise energetic embedding for the purpose for which they are making the tool. Each rattle is unique, often adorned with symbolic elements that reflect the cosmology and beliefs of the culture or tradition from which it originates.
